Axnick

I already got some e-mails concerning my family name "Axnick". This name is very rare and I personally never have met someone with the same name by coincidence.

With the help of the internet it is possible to find some Axnicks worldwide. But as we are not that many I am trying to link us. Below you can download a tif-file with a scanned handwritten family-tree graphic of my grandfather Ernst.

The origin of the name Axnick might be Achtsnicht (as well Achtzenicht, Achtning, Achternicht, Achtsnynit) that was simplyfied in the 19th century to the common name Axnick and was first archieved in the region of former "Ostpreussen" (East Prussia, see map from 1919-45). The oldest found written proof of this name "niclos ich achzinit" is from 1350.
